Healing Materials 101


There are variations of healing materials people use depending on intention and purpose. This can be a cultural or personal choice, vibrational energy exists in all materials and at different vibrations.
Healing Materials are often used in combination to amplify the energy and enhance the desired outcome. For example, a person preparing to meditate might, light a candle, use essential oils, burn sage/incense, play soft meditative music, while holding onto their chosen crystals.

Healing materials have a distinguished position in human history and have been used for thousands of years all over the globe. Below is a simple introduction to some familiar and traditional healing materials.

CandlesLighting a candle is a traditional way to show one’s thoughts and or feelings. Candle energy amplifies what a persons intent is, burning candles for a specific intent should always be positive for highest light and highest good. Different colors of candles represent different energies, elements and properties for which you want to activate. Example, a green candle is associated with luck, money, prosperity, nature, physical healing, & fertility.
Medicinal TeaTea is one of the most ancient forms of medicine, it has been the main source of medicine used by people for thousands of years. Herbal medicine is medicine made from plants, either the whole plant or sometimes parts of it, for example leaves, flowers, roots or bark. Loose Leaf or Tea Bags- loose leaf tea is that, generally speaking, it’s higher quality than tea bags, as a rule of thumb, you’ll usually pay a bit more for loose leaf tea and it will be of a higher quality than that in tea bags, but not always.
Crystals Crystal therapy is an ancient healing system concerned with treating patients holistically. A crystal is a network of repeating geometric patterns made up of compressed ions, atoms and molecules. According to crystal therapy, every crystal has its own unique electromagnetic charge. These charges, or healing vibrations interact with the body’s energy centers to remove blockages and restore a healthy flow through the body and mind. Creating more harmony and peace throughout the body.
Incense dates back to ancient Egypt. Incense has a long history of being used in conjunction with ceremonies, rituals, spiritual and religious occasions. Incense burning is believed to purify the surroundings and ward off evil spirits & negative energy. Today incense is commonly used in spiritual environments, wellness settings, yoga studios and our own personal homes. Palo Santo is used to clear bad energy it can be burned or it is also available in a spray bottle form.

Essential Oils Essential oils have been an integral part of the daily lives of people for thousands of years, offering a variety of benefits from cosmetic and dietary purposes to spiritual and religious use. Aromatherapy is the study of plants and their essential oils. Aromatherapy is made up of the science behind aroma, the healing qualities of essential oils. Medical aromatherapy  is the use of essential oils to improve health & well-being, essential oils, come straight from the plant with no added parts.
Music Healing with sound is believed to date back to ancient Greece. Music Therapy can reduce stress and promote relaxation. Alpha waves: Healing music therapy will help you sleep better and more peacefully. Music Therapy findings have supported a wide range of benefits from changing brain waves to lowering heart rate, blood pressure, anxiety and depressive states. It has been said music is the healing force of the universe and music can heal the wounds which medicine cannot touch.
Herbs- Botanicals, are made from the leaves, flowers, roots, and bark of plants.  Herbal, plant medicine has persisted as the world’s primary form of medicine since the beginning of time. Plants have been the basis for medical treatments through most of human history, and such traditional medicine is still widely practiced today. An Herbalist is someone who uses plants for healing. Herbalists are people who dedicate their lives to working with medicinal plants to prevent disease, treat disease & maintain one’s wellness.

Mortar and Pestlehave been around since ancient times to break down and crush ingredients. Mortar -the bowl- Pestle – the hand held tool- come in a variety of sizes, styles, and materials. Mortar and Pestle crush the plant expelling the fragrance and essential oils, while a blade, cuts them. Apothecaries and Herbalists use a Mortar and Pestle to grind plants and herbs to make homemade remedies, treatments, tinctures, essential oils, soaps, candles and more.
Tarot Cards –Most standard Tarot Readings follow a simple format where you ask the Tarot deck a question. These questions should be clear and open-ended as the Tarot is not designed to provide specific answers, but rather illuminate a path toward broader opportunities. Tarot Cards is a means to help yourself or others explore what’s going on in their lives. They are instead a sacred mirror that, through a process known as synchronicity, removes the disconnect between your inner and outer self.
Colors – Using color to heal dates back to the Egyptians. Using the different color energies to help bring balance to our life is easy. Different colors represent different emotions and frequencies. For Example the color Green, symbolizes harmony, safety, growth and health. Green represents hope, generosity, prosperity, luck and is a color of nature, earth and new growth. Different colors represent the different Chakra Centers in our bodies. The fourth Chakra is the Heart Chakra, it is the color green.

Books – People read books to develop their personal , wisdom and understanding about the many types of healing properties. Reading books from different authors will expand your knowledge in specific topics and give you different healing perspectives, exposing you to different healing styles. ” The more that you read, the more things you will know. Baths – Healing baths have been used for thousands of years. Still today, people go to public baths/natural springs or make their own baths at home. There are different ingredients to use in your bath, depending on what type of detox you are desiring. Soaking in a Detox Bath is calming, relaxing and helps to releases toxins from our bodies. Our skin is the largest organ in our body it absorbs so many things on a daily biases, Detox Baths help to keep our bodies/skin healthy, clean and rejuvenated.
Food- “Let Food Be Thy Medicine & Medicine Be Thy Food”, -Hippocrates. What you choose to eat has profound effects on your overall health. Eating well helps to reduce the risk of physical health problems like heart disease and diabetes. It also helps with sleeping patterns, energy levels, and your general health. You may have noticed that your mood often affects the types of food you choose, as well as how much you eat. A nutritious diet is your best defense against chronic illness. Rather than curing an illness, food can be used as prevention. There are numerous studies and books, on foods that heal our bodies and help keep us healthy.

Singing Bowls – Are used in various environments, including spiritual ceremony, preparing for meditation, personal use, and don’t forget Sound Baths. A Sound Bath is a meditative practice meant to inspire – using the bowls as a tool – help promote mental and physical healing from within. The healing aspect of a Sound Bath includes the ability for the body to relax so deeply, that the natural healing properties of our bodies can do it’s work. Tinctures  are concentrated herbal extracts made by soaking the bark, berries, leaves (dried or fresh), or roots from one or more plants in alcohol or vinegar/apple cider vinegar. The alcohol or vinegar pulls out the active ingredients in the plant parts, concentrating them as a liquid. Tinctures have been around for a very long time and are a key component of traditional herbal medicine. Tinctures have historically been widely used in Asian cultures, and they’re just now starting to gain real momentum in the West. They’re natural, and inexpensive to make and can be easily prepared at home or with the help of a professional.
